When shipping certain large packages, the shipping weight used for billing purposes is dimensional weight, not the actual weight of the package. Dimensional weight includes the length, width, and height of a package to determine cost, not just weight. Dimensional weight is applicable to all packages larger than one cubic foot in volume. Dimensional weight is determined by the “length plus girth” of a package where the girth is the length plus twice the height plus twice the width.
